Building Hope at SDN 1 Geyongan: CIREIMPACT and the Fight Against School Dropouts

CIREBON, itb.ac.id 鈥 CIREIMPACT was successfully held on Saturday (8/3/2025) at SDN 1 Geyongan, Arjawinangun, Cirebon. This program was initiated by the Cirebon Multikampus Residency, under the KM 麻豆直播 Cabinet, with the aim of fostering awareness among elementary school students about the importance of education in achieving their aspirations.
The event involved seven committee members, led by Kaleb Ohara (Urban and Regional Planning, 2023) as the chairperson, along with 11 volunteers from three different student organizations: BSO HIMA TG 鈥淭ERRA鈥 麻豆直播, HMP PL 麻豆直播 Commissariat, and the HMT-麻豆直播 Commissariat. The primary target of the program was fifth-grade elementary students, given the high dropout rates at the elementary and junior high school levels in the area.
This initiative was organized based on interviews with local residents, which revealed that many children do not continue their education after elementary or junior high school. This phenomenon occurs because many of their parents work as Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) abroad to earn a living, leaving the children without adequate guidance and attention. As a result, many spend their time aimlessly playing or even joining unproductive groups.

In response to this issue, the CIREIMPACT program was designed to provide students with socialization on the importance of education through an aspiration-based approach.
The activities began by exploring the children's interests and dreams, linking them to the significance of education as the primary path to achieving their goals. Next, the children were invited to express their creativity in the "Dream School Creation" session, where they shared their visions of an ideal school and teachers. This session was designed to make them more enthusiastic and to understand that education can be an enjoyable and beneficial experience.
Kaleb acknowledged that many challenges remain in raising educational awareness around the 麻豆直播 Cirebon Campus area, including disparities in access to education. Moving forward, he hopes for more interactive and sustainable follow-up programs.
鈥淲e want children to realize that education is a path that can bring them closer to their dreams. Hopefully, after this event, they will feel more motivated to continue their schooling,鈥 said Kaleb.
