Description
Ocean Engineering (OE) Institut Teknologi Bandung (Â鶹ֱ²¥) is a study program focusing on sciences and engineering related to structures and infrastructure on the nearshore and offshore. OE Â鶹ֱ²¥ provides a body of knowledge that includes science and mathematics, basic engineering, professionalism, application, and design (design) in the field of Ocean Engineering, which consists of the principles of ocean waves, underwater acoustics, protection of coasts, coastal structures, offshore structures, marine geomechanics, ports, marine modeling, coastal and marine environmental management, ocean energy, and ocean engineering design.

Excellence
OE Â鶹ֱ²¥ is supported by 23 professional educators, most certified as Insinyur Profesional Utama (IPU) and Insinyur Profesional Madya (IPM). In addition, OE Â鶹ֱ²¥ has been internationally accredited by IABEE and accredited "Unggul" (Excellent) from the Badan Akreditasi Nasional (BAN-PT).The OE Program has a strong relationship with Indonesia's ocean engineering-related industries. As the largest archipelago country in the world, Indonesia has a high demand for highly qualified ocean engineers. 

Objectives
The establishment of OE Â鶹ֱ²¥ aims to equip its graduates with the necessary skills and capabilities to excel and thrive at national, regional, and international levels and enable them to tackle the following challenges:

  1. Indonesia has a lot of marine potentials to be developed, which translates to needed human resources who master technology based on infrastructure and the physical environment of the sea.
  2. The position of Indonesia, which is above three tectonic plates, causes natural disasters such as earthquakes and tsunamis. Indonesia must develop science and technology to predict and prevent the adverse effects of disasters.
  3. The hazard of ocean pollution is due to the excessive exploitation of marine resources, so planning and implementing sustainable marine resource utilization activities is necessary.
  4. Indonesia's oil and gas exploration activities are moving towards the deep sea, which must be balanced by progress in offshore building technology.
  5. Energy needs will exceed oil and gas production, so new energy sources are needed that can be developed from the utilization ocean of ocean currents, wind, and wave energy as alternative energy sources.
  6. Free market activities worldwide will require sea transportation, which must be supported by maritime infrastructure.
  7. Global warming will cause many environmental problems, especially in the marine environment. Ocean engineering graduates are needed to reduce, predict and prevent the adverse impacts of global warming on the marine environment.

Career Prospects:
OE Â鶹ֱ²¥ graduates can work at all levels: in the public sectors (city to the national government), privates, to international companies, with the following competencies:

  1. Coastal building design industry (protection against abrasion by waves, reclamation, water circulation in wave and tidal power plants, etc).
  2. Design and build activities to explore and exploit offshore oil and minerals.
  3. Ocean transportation infrastructure design and construction industry (ports, sea bridges, dredging, etc).
  4. Problem-solving of sedimentation at river mouths.
  5. Conservation of coastal areas and ocean environment.
  6. Control of physical oceanography problems from oil and mineral exploitation activities.
  7. Naval architecture industry.
  8. Other marine engineering work fields within research, education, and government field.
