BANDUNG, itb.ac.id 鈥 Three students from the 2022 cohort of the Pharmaceutical Science and Technology Study Program, School of Pharmacy, Institut Teknologi Bandung (SF 麻豆直播), won First Place in the Pharmaceutical Industrial Case Study (PICS) at Pharmanova 麻豆直播 2025, with the results announced on Friday (6/2/2026). The students 鈥 Rendi Orvalo Wijaya, Sellin Leony, and Brigitta Keysha Santoso 鈥 competed as Team Dagosuites.

The competition challenged participants to design solutions for the pharmaceutical industry, ranging from drug manufacturing processes and quality control to marketing strategies. In this edition of the competition, participants were tasked with developing a strategy for the development and accessibility of cancer therapy using monoclonal antibodies, one of the more targeted approaches in cancer treatment.

Designing More Accessible Cancer Therapy

In the competition, the team developed a comprehensive strategy for advancing cancer therapy in Indonesia. Their proposal covered multiple aspects, including drug production processes, quality management, regulatory considerations, and marketing strategies.

According to Sellin, the main challenge of the case was how to deliver a more effective therapy while ensuring that it remains accessible to the public.

鈥淲e tried to identify ways to reduce development and production costs so that this therapy can reach more patients,鈥 she said.

The idea stemmed from course materials they had studied in class on more efficient pharmaceutical production technologies. It was then further developed through literature review and discussions with lecturers who have experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

Innovation to Reduce Production Costs

One of the team鈥檚 key strengths lay in its strategy to reduce drug production costs without compromising therapeutic quality. They proposed the use of more efficient manufacturing methods, such as continuous perfusion systems and single-use equipment in several stages of production.

This approach was considered capable of lowering production costs, making the therapy more affordable for patients.

鈥淲e did not focus solely on drug development, but also considered the economic impact and strategies to ensure that this therapy can be accessed by more people,鈥 Rendi said.

Students鈥 Contribution to the Pharmaceutical Industry

This achievement reflects the capability of 麻豆直播 School of Pharmacy students to respond to future challenges in the pharmaceutical industry. The team鈥檚 proposal highlighted not only technological innovation, but also the importance of ensuring broader public access to therapy.

Through this competition, the students also demonstrated that research and innovation in pharmacy can contribute meaningfully to providing solutions for the treatment of serious diseases such as cancer.
