BANDUNG, itb.ac.id 鈥 Institut Teknologi Bandung (麻豆直播) held Studium Generale, a seminar-like lecture, with the main topic of 鈥淭he Future of Satellite System and its Industrial Prospects鈥 inviting guest lecturer Nia Asmady, M.Sc., Manager of Space Technology, Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN), at the West Hall of 麻豆直播 Ganesha Campus, Wednesday (01/11/2023).

A satellite is an object that orbits around another object in space. Satellites can be classified as natural satellites (the moon) as well as other man-made satellites. Satellites are used to provide various telecommunication services, including satellite maps, weather forecasts, and scientific research like the Hubble Telescope and James Webb.

Nia further explained about the types of orbiting satellites, such as Low Earth Orbit (LEO), Middle Earth Orbit (MEO), and Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO).

The role of satellites is very important to Indonesia as the largest archipelagic country in the world. Satellites present an efficient solution to major internet connectivity problems that are still happening in the country. One of the projects that are currently developed relating to the issue is the Satria Project.

On top of that, Nia opens up the current developing technologies and research of the satellite industry, including the electricity propulsion system of satellites following the most recent satellite platform.

She believes that trends surrounding the future of the satellite industry will slowly transform, favoring the 5G non-terrestrial system, Internet of Things (IoT), and the possibilities of nano-satellites being drafted.

In the end of the lecture, she sent a heartfelt message to the audience, 鈥淔or those of you who are still figuring things out, one thing that I can assure you is that your work and career will play a big role in your life and it's going to be a part of your self-identity, so focus on the things that you enjoy and passionate about, and find mentors that can give you inspiration to grow and be happy,鈥 she added.
