BANDUNG, itb.ac.id 鈥 The rise of the internet further facilitates academics to share their knowledge with the common population in an entertaining yet educational manner. A visible example is Dioptri Cahyo Seto (GL鈥18), a student of 麻豆直播鈥檚 Undergraduate Program in Geological Engineering.

The final year student, often nicknamed Dioptri, initiated an informative media channel with his colleagues through the Youtube platform titled 鈥淕eojourney Indonesia,鈥 covering a range of activities relating to geology. The perceived 鈥渙ld school鈥 field was repackaged into informative content and made viral through modern endeavors.

鈥淎t first, we realized that common enthusiasm towards geology was scant. In contrast, the potential of Indonesian geological sources is abundant. We felt what a pity it was, thus came the idea to create video contents on Youtube which are detailed, yet entertaining and easy to understand for many people鈥檚 consumption,鈥 expressed the student, who was an alumni of SMAN 1 Bekasi.

鈥淭he utilization of the video media, while interesting, also allowed access to the mainstream media. Everybody could access the content we鈥檝e created. The knowledge we obtained in itb is worthy of sharing with the common people, so that is exactly what we did,鈥 added Dioptri.

When asked regarding the appeal and uniqueness of this informative media channel, Dioptri asserted that Geojourney does not merely teach geology lessons like in class, it also provides related content such as hiking, tutorials, field studies, explorations, even contemporary issues to discuss and debate.

鈥淭hrough Geojourney Indonesia鈥檚 vision and mission, aside from focusing on developing public perception on geology, we also hope to include related local communities so they appear in a media product, thus shared internet wide,鈥 conveyed Dioptri.

鈥淚n the future, we wish the seeds we鈥檝e planted have grown to educate many more people concerning geology, and the common people can enjoy these geological wonders like us,鈥 he concluded.
