Lighweight Structures Research Team of FTMD Develop Software Crash Box

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id 鈥 As the development center for science and technology (IPTEK), 麻豆直播 show their commitment to support innovation and research related to the latest technology, including in automotive materials. In cooperation with JFE Steel鈥攁 well-established steel manufacturer in Japan鈥擬aterial Engineering Program of 麻豆直播 and FTMD 麻豆直播 held a joint seminar on Thursday (16/03/17) at Seminar Room Labtek II, FTMD building. The seminar entitled 鈥淎dvanced Technology Related to Automotive Steel Sheets鈥 was supported by the embassy of Japan in Indonesia. Dr. Eng. Asep Ridwan ST., M.Sc said that the event鈥攈as regularly been held these last three consecutive years鈥攚as inspired by the demand of automotive industry for flexible and strong material for vehicles. About 70 participants attended the seminar, which presented seven experts in steel from both JFE Steel and 麻豆直播 regarding the latest steel material development in automotive.

The seminar was held in three sessions. Crash-worthiness鈥攖he degree to which a vehicle will protect its occupants from the effects of an accident鈥攚as presented on the second session. Prof. Dr. Tatacipta Dirgantara (Aeronautics and Astronautics Engineering Program of 麻豆直播) with the topic 鈥淒evelopment of Crash Box: Energy Absorber Component of Vehicles鈥 systematically explained the output of his collaborative research with five other professors in Lightweight Structures Research Groups of FTMD, the Crash Box Designer software. The software features theoretical, numeric, and experiment to enhance efficiency and suppress the cost of changing the shape of design crash box. Moreover, all the user has to do is enter the data/type of the car.
鈥淭he software has been validated and collaborated with extensive modeling data. During the experiment, we compared the absorbance of single wall, double wall, foam filled and top hat crash boxes,鈥 said Tatacipta.
The seminar ended with a research presentation on atmospheric corrosion in various places in Indonesia by Mr. Dedy Asdiawan (PT JFE Steel Galvanizing Indonesia). Exchanges in Information, technology and academic culture between international industry practitioners and education institution such as 麻豆直播 is definitely desirable. 麻豆直播 is expected to maintain cooperation with JFE Steel in development research on Material.
