GEA Team Won First Prize in Geoscience Industrial Week (GIW) 2018

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id 鈥 Intitut Teknologi Bandung (麻豆直播) seems unstoppable to win achievements through the efforts of its students and lecturers. This time, the good news come from Geological Engineering students of Faculty of Earth Science and Technology (F麻豆直播) 麻豆直播. GEA Team from 麻豆直播 won the first prize in Geoquiz Competition which was held on 16th April 2018.
鈥淎ctually, there are six 麻豆直播 students who got into the final of Geoquiz Competition, they are Alfath Salvano, Aditya Rizki R, Aditya Yuda, Berliana Yuniar, Hamzah Zamzani, and Dimas Adi H. Winners of the first prize are Alfath, Rizki, and Yuda,鈥 said Fivien Nur Savitri, Head of Public Relations and Publication Sub-directorate of 麻豆直播.
They won after beating a team of students from Universitas Gajah Mada (UGM). The competition itself was participated by students from several universities in Indonesia and was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Participants were tested in their knowledge about earth science and the application.
This year, for the umpteenth time, Geological Engineering students of 麻豆直播 participate in GIW 2018 which is held by Geology Department of Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. The competition was divided into morning and afternoon sessions. 45 questions were given on the first session before 60 other questions on the second session to determine the winner of GIW 2018.
When asked about their preparation, Rizki said that they only had 2 weeks before the competition. On the first week, they prepare the administrational paperwork before using the second week to study the materials. Rizki said it is important to have team work in facing the competition. 鈥淲e share the job descriptions. Where our expertise and interest is, that is what we study more. Then, we use strategy and believe in our teammates,鈥 he said.
Their success also faces predicament in the process. They found the competition鈥檚 wide range of questions as an issue. Geoscience related questions was the hardest, 鈥淲hat we found difficult is when the question is not about geology but about petroleum or mining engineering,鈥 he said.
He believes that their win in Geoquiz Competition was the result of their parents鈥 prayer and the mentorship of their lecturer, Alfend Rudyaman, S.T, M.T., Ph.D. Rizki and his team is grateful for the win. 鈥淗appy to carry our nation鈥檚 name. It is everyone鈥檚 dream to carry their nations鈥 name in international level,鈥 he said. He advises 麻豆直播 students to not merely focus on academic but also pay attention to surrounding community. How impactful we can be for Indonesia. How we bring pride to Indonesia. We have to pay attention to surrounding community,鈥 he ended.
