57th Anniversary of itb: Contribute Agents of Change for Indonesia

BANDUNG, itb.ac.id - After Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ officially changed its name from Technische Hogeschoolte Bandoeng (THS) to Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ on March 2, 1959, on Wednesday (5/2/16) Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ opens 57th anniversary with an open session entitled "Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Toward 100 Years Higher Technical Education in Indonesia ". The event held at the East Hall was attended by various agencies, representatives of students, rectors Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ prior to the national figures. In this open trial also presented scientific speech of Prof. Zeily Nurachman, D.Sc entitled "Building a Culture Researching: The Need to Work Hard, Fighting Power, and Endurance (Popularizing Sea Oil, Oil Of Tropical Marine Microalgae)".
Related to law no. 11 of 2014 on engineering, Prof. Ir. Indratmo Sukarno, M. Sc., Ph.D., as Chairman of the Academic Senate explained, "As the first engineering college in Indonesia, Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ accounted for the largest undergraduate engineering in Indonesia to carry out tasks related to the needs of engineering in Indonesia." As global dynamics and technological advances, economics changed directions. "The economy has shifted from the current era of industrial economy to a knowledge-based entrepreneurial economy and driven by technological innovation," said Betti Alisjahbana as chairman of the Board of Trustees in his speech. Of course technology is supporting the economy, in other words perkonomian change requires agents/engineer with competencies in the field of technology.

Contributing to the nation as agents of development, can be realized by providing for the community approach. A growing view that the existence of the social sciences and humanities at Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ bring science and technology closer to the community, as well as more in tune with the culture and humanity. According to Prof. Kadarsah, Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ has become an agent of change by contributing in various development sectors both as a business, teachers and researchers at universities, mass media practitioners and journalists, or as a political activist / non-governmental organizations. Some alumni of Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ also has become 'ambassadors of science and technology' nation, with a prominent position in universities or private companies leading in foreign countries. In addition, various intellectual work all Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ academic staff have also contributed in the life of society, both in economic, social, or cultural.

Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ has an important role in the research-university entrepreneurial perspective. "Ideals of Indonesia to make Indonesia as the country's digital economy the largest in Southeast Asia and will produce 1000 technopreneur in 2020 to match with the vision of Âé¶¹Ö±²¥. People can also use the expertise, the results of research and innovation generated by Âé¶¹Ö±²¥, and its graduates can contribute to that vision," said Betti.
